Wax Removal

Ears Feeling Blocked?
There are three recognised methods of wax removal, and the right one depends on you. The shape of your ear, your medical history, and where the wax sits and how firm it is. We’ll work out which method is right and tell you why.

Before and after, we use video otoscopy so you can see the health of your ear and see that the wax is gone.

Expert Care

Wax removal here is led by a registered nurse who specialises in it, alongside clinicians who do the same. It’s all they do. That focus matters, because doing it well, comfortably and safely, comes down to experience and care.

OUR METHODS

Three Trusted Ways To Remove Ear Wax

A dark teal ear with curved sound lines and an angled hearing instrument represents hearing care from Almond Hearing in Scotland.

Micro Suction

Gentle suction lifts the wax out of the ear canal. We do it under a high-powered microscope at 20x magnification, the kind ENT consultants use, so we can see the ear canal in detail the whole way through.

Irrigation

Not to be confused with syringing. Irrigation uses a purpose-made machine to gently flush the wax out with water, at a pressure we control carefully. It’s a good option when the wax is soft and sits deep in the canal, though it’s not suitable for anyone with a perforated eardrum.

Instrumentation

Specialist tools to ease wax from the outer part of the canal. We mostly use this alongside another method, and it’s also how we remove any foreign bodies.

GENTLE CARE

For Younger
Ears.

Lynsey, our registered nurse and wax removal clinical lead, offers wax removal for children aged five and up at our Livingston and Clarkston clinics.

The only thing we ask is that your child can hold their head still for the length of the treatment, which is what makes it safe and comfortable for them.
